THE SACRED VEIL, By Eric Whitacre
Our Virtual Concert on October 22, 2021 by Cathy Youngblood, Artistic Director Is Available on Caritas A Cappella Ensemble's You Tube Channel to view or just to listen
This relatively new work by one of the most acclaimed choral composers of our time consists of 12 movements written in collaboration with Whitacre’s close friend and creative collaborator Charles Anthony (“Tony”) Silvestri. Tony’s poetry reveals his journey through the loss of his young wife Julie to ovarian cancer, a journey which resonates with many of us who have experienced loss, whether to cancer, COVID, or other causes. The pandemic alone has produced layers of loss and the ongoing struggle with grief is real. This work provides a powerful vehicle for facing these losses, as we journey through love, loss, grief and hope in this breathtaking music. The Sacred Veil will be performed and recorded live. Charlotte pianist Emily Urbanek and Charlotte cellist Tanja Bechtler will be our guests for this concert. We will partner with "Psychology for ALL", a Local nonprofit organization that will help us understand the grief process and look toward the future with hope.
